Farman 1914

The Farman MF14 "Shorthorn" was a two-seater reconnaissance bi-plane and bomber made by the French company Société des Avions Henri & Maurice Farman. These planes were used at the beginning of World War I by the French, British and Italian air forces. On December 21st, 1914, the first ever night bombing raid was carried out with a Royal Naval Air Service MF14 against a German artillery position in Ostend. Images show operations for loading ammunition on a bomber and the outfits worn by crews. At the centre is the reproduction of a stamp dedicated to Henry Farman, one of the two brothers who invented this plane.
